Background
Sizewise, a global medical equipment manufacturer, supplies healthcare facilities and homecare patients with support surfaces, bed frames, and mobility equipment required across the patient care continuum. This market is quickly evolving and it is important to stay innovative and competitive. Sizewise sought a technical update and refresh of their product line without significantly altering the look and feel of the products that customers know and appreciate.
Challenge
To offer cost-effective technology solutions that differentiate the client’s products in the market, and to meet their mission and vision: to support clinicians in their work, heal patients faster, and provide superior products and service at a competitive price point.
Solution
This challenge required bringing multiple technical domains together—hardware, firmware, mechanical design, system control, human factors, connectivity, and data analytics. Simbex leveraged years of involvement in the Support Surfaces Standards Initiative (S3I) and our own support surface development experience to evaluate and select a combination of off-the-shelf and custom technologies, analyze and capitalize on intellectual property opportunities for the client, and deliver solutions developed within a rigorous medical device quality management system.
Result
First-in-class product offerings that position the manufacturer as an innovative leader in the space. This client benefits from having Simbex as a trusted product development partner for both this first product, and with an eye towards product line extensions and solutions for adjacent products. The long-term result is an integrated platform solution that can be leveraged across the manufacturer’s multiple product lines.
